Rezoning request at 111 Southpark Dr.
RZN17-0005 Request to rezone approximately 1.289 acres of vacant land from the Office Zoning District to the General Commercial Zoning District at 111 Southpark Dr. (Tax Parcel 347-18-11A) by Virginia Blue Ridge, LLC on behalf of SDP Southpark, LLC (property owner).
The Town of Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has received a request to rezone approximately 1.289 acres from the Office Zoning District to the General Commercial Zoning District at 111 Southpark Dr. The request is being made by Blaine Shively, of Virginia Blue Ridge, LLC on behalf of SDP Southpark, LLC. The request entails the construction of a four story hotel with a total of 66 guest rooms, associated parking and other improvements. There is an accompanying request for a special exception to allow parking in the front of the building line (31 spaces of 68 spaces). The property will be under common ownership and management as the neighboring Courtyard Marriott, located at 105 Southpark Dr.
The following meetings have been scheduled to consider this application:
Neighborhood Meeting: Thursday, Sept. 28, 5:30 p.m. in the Blacksburg Motor Company Building at 400 S. Main St. - This is an informal meeting that will give the applicant the opportunity to present the plans and provide attendees with the opportunity to ask questions. A staff member from the Planning Department will forward the notes from the meeting to the Planning Commission and Town Council.
Planning Commission Work Session: Tuesday, Oct. 17, 5 p.m. in the Blacksburg Motor Company Building at 400 S. Main St. - The Planning Commission will review the request and the staff report. There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal. The public is welcome to attend, however, this is not a public hearing and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.
Planning Commission Public Hearing: Tuesday, Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 S. Main St. -The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the request and make a recommendation to Town Council. There will be an opportunity for the applicant and the public to comment.
