New Summer Camps

The Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department has added a few summer camps in August.

Worlds of Wonder camps are the newest offerings by the Whole Child Learning Company - provider of GiggleBytes computer classes and Little Amigos Spanish Classes. A certified teacher will lead all camps.

A 1/2 hour supervised lunch period from 12-12:30 pm is available for any children who want to participate in both a morning and afternoon camp. Children must bring their own lunch. 


Worlds of Wonder Spanish Art Camp
¡Arte en Español!
Rising 1st – 5th graders

This multicultural camp will expose children to Spanish and teach/review vocabulary including colors, numbers, shapes and some basic commands. Camp curriculum includes; songs, games, stories and of course amazing art projects. A combination of English and Spanish will be used during camp. Fabulous culture study art projects will be completed including projects inspired by Mexican Talavera Tile Painting, Mexican Papel Picado and Mexican Huichol.

Worlds of Wonder Science Camp
W.O.W. BUGS!
Rising 1st – 5th graders


School is not starting until August 30 - let the kids go buggy so you don¹t! This fantastic camp explores the wonderful world of insects! Curriculum is aligned with National Science Standards and includes experiments, observation, measurement and recording data. Your amateur entomologist will participate in games, crafts, and movement activities such as: Insect or Not?, Insector Collector, Light Up My Life, Flea Long Jump, Fascinating Flight, Dragonfly Dash, Cricket Songs, Concealing Camouflage, Invent a Camo Critter, and more!

Worlds of Wonder Creative Writing Camp
W.O.W. Words!
Rising 3rd – 5th Graders


Words wonderful words create your masterpiece in this unique and fun creative writing camp. We will engage in a Writers Workshop style creative writing class with the goal of producing a finished piece over the course of this weeklong camp. We¹ll begin by creating our own tye dye writing journal to inspire our creativity. Creative writing exercises, dramatizations, games and more will keep kids engaged. Parents will be invited to attend our reading on the last day of class to hear our masterpieces!
Limited enrollment. Children should wear old clothes or a smock on the first day of camp to create their tye dye journal.
