This position will be responsible for instructing, testing, and evaluating students participating in American Red Cross health and safety classes offered by the Blacksburg Aquatic Center. Duties will include but are not limited to the following: Community CPR/AED, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Lifeguard Training, First Aid for Infants, Children and Adults, and Babysitter Training.
Current certification as an American Red Cross Health and Safety Instructor is required. Previous experience teaching American Red Cross classes is preferred. A high school diploma or GED is required. Qualified applicants for this position must be 18 years of age or older to be considered.
Qualified applicants must be able to: interact with the public; apply demonstrative knowledge of the skills and materials used in program instruction; prevent accidents through rule enforcement; remain calm in emergency situations; analyze and correct facility hazards; and learn and adhere to emergency procedures. The ability to use a computer is required, as well as familiarity with and registration through the American Red Cross National Database. A satisfactory post offer pre-employment criminal background investigation will be required of the selected applicant.
Hourly rate is $10.00. Working hours will vary with assignments given Monday through Sunday to include: mornings, afternoons, nights, weekends, and holidays. This position will not exceed 1,500 hours during any consecutive 12 month period.
