This seasonal opening will perform manual labor maintaining public areas and properties that include: the downtown area, medians, parks, bike trails and rights-of-way. Duties will include, but are not limited to: mowing and use of mowing equipment; planting and maintaining flowerbeds and landscaped areas; planting and pruning trees and shrubs; preparing ball fields for play; picking up trash along roadways and in landscaped areas; raking leaves and removing weeds from sidewalks.
Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Professional landscaping or related work experience is required. Individuals must be self-motivated, possess an outstanding work ethic, be punctual, be able to work in groups or individually, be able to work in various climatic conditions, be able to work in a crouched or kneeling position for extended periods of time and lift heavy objects. A valid Virginia driver’s license and an excellent driving record are required. A satisfactory post offer pre-employment criminal background investigation will be required of the selected applicant.
The hourly rate is $10.00. This position will not exceed 1,500 hours during any consecutive 12 month period. Work schedule will vary and be approximately 40 hours per week. The approximate duration of this position will be through November.
