The Town of Blacksburg in collaboration with the Virginia Tech Center for Geospatial Information and Technology (CGIT) is part of a mapping project to collect information on our accessible facilities for our citizens with Geospatial In.formation System (GIS).
With this application, the town is inviting public input to help understand and improve accessibility within the downtown office, retail and administrative district and on routes within commercial, health and office districts.
The layers on this site are editable so users can add points where accessibility is an issue, places that are appropriate for accessibility, and any other general comment. For example the tool can include places that need improvement for accessibility due to pavement unevenness and lack of curb cuts, or can also include facilities that have public accessible bathrooms and other accommodations.
In addition the town is interested in bus stops that you may use that give you access to certain areas in town, routes that work for you on a regular basis, or routes that currently you cannot use but would like to.
The edit button at the top of the tool will allow you to add lines, points, and comments on locations and routes that are not accessible.
If you need more information about this project or need help in using the application, please contact Katherine Smith, GIS Coordinator, Town of Blacksburg, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
