Lifeguard Training

15 years of age or older

Pre-requisite
1) Swim 300 yards continuously, using these strokes in the following order:
*100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick. Rhythmic breathing can be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.
*100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick, and glide sequence.
*100 yards of front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
2) Time Event - starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds.

Course Objective - Upon successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate.  The Lifeguard Training Certificate that includes First Aid Skills is valid for three (3) years.  Along with the Lifeguard Training Certificate, you will also receive a certificate in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for one (1) year.  Attendance at all classes is mandatory - Any questions or problems, please call the Aquatic Center at 961-1852 between 6am-9pm.
*Due to the nature of the class, participants must pass the swimming skills on the first day in order to participate in the remainder of the class.
