The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining all town-owned properties, all infrastructure within the public rights-of-way, all public water and sewer utilities, and the town fleet of vehicles and equipment. Public Works also provides curbside collection programs to residential customers such as refuse and recycling, spring and fall cleanup, leaf collection, and brush collection. The town’s environmental sustainability programs are coordinated by the Public Works Department through a comprehensive Environmental Management Program.

Office of the Director 

The Office of the Director administers the department’s resource allocation, performance measurement, design review, project management, emergency preparedness, and occupational safety responsibilities. For more information on the Office of the Director, call 540-443-1200.

General Services Division

The General Services Division is responsible for providing administrative support to the entire department to include reception services, personnel, payroll, accounting and budgeting. This division oversees the operation of the town garage which maintains the town’s fleet of vehicles and equipment. The General Services Division is also responsible for the proper maintenance and operation of all town buildings, to include custodial services. Field Operations Division

The Field Operations Division is responsible for maintaining all infrastructures within the public rights-of-way, to include roadways, sidewalks, storm drains, traffic signals, parking meters, roadway signs, pavement markings, and median landscaping. This division is responsible for maintaining the grounds and landscaping for all town facilities, parks and bike trails. Utilities Division

The Utility Division is responsible for maintaining the town’s water and sewer utility systems, to include all pumping stations. This division is also responsible for installing new water meter connections, performing annual fire hydrant flushing, and performing television inspection of new sanitary sewer mains. Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling

The Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling is responsible for the town’s curbside refuse and recycling collection programs, along with all refuse and recycling services for town facilities and their employees. A very active force in community outreach and public awareness on recycling and disposal other items, this division works closely with apartment complexes to comply with the town’s recycling ordinance. This division is also very active in several events, including Wheels and Wagons, Earth Day, Summer Solstice, and Steppin' Out.
