Sustainable Eats Bike Tour: A Glimpse of Sustainable Practices at Virginia Tech’s Dining Halls
Come join us as we learn about Dining Services’ sustainable practices. We’ll travel by bike to five dining facilities, hear from chefs about their passions, and try new menu items for the 2019 Fall semester. The event will begin at West End Market and end at Turner Place. Roam bike share bikes will be available for free to those who do not have a personal bike.
Time: 12:30-2:30 p.m.

Stadium Woods Tour
An educational tour of the woods led by John Seiler, VT Alumni Distinguished Professor of forest biology. Learn about the history, biology and cultural impacts of Stadium Woods. We will meet at the Colbert Tree, located behind the Washington Street tennis courts on the northeast corner of the woods(at the flag pole). Click for map of meeting place.

Moss Arts Center Lobby Displays: Sustainability at VT
Event Description: How are members of the Virginia Tech community exploring and realizing sustainability? Learn more and get involved at this open exhibition of Earth-friendly projects before National Geographic Live, Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice. This display features work by the Center for Communicating Science, Center for Food Systems and Community Transformation, Coastal@VT, and others.

National Geographic Live – Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice
Event Description: Explore a hidden universe through the eyes of the photographic team of David Doubilet and his underwater partner Jennifer Hayes. Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea is a corner of the coral triangle that also includes the Philippines and Indonesia- and the center of the world in terms of marine biodiversity. Discover an unspoiled wilderness of water crowded with layers of life: from fingernail-sized pygmy seahorses to 60-foot tall towers of barracudas. This event is not free, you will need to buy tickets in advance.

The Last Plastic Straw Campaign
Every day in the U.S., people use 500 million straws a day – enough to circle to planet more than two-and-a-half times! Straws are now one of the top 10 marine debris items found on our beaches. And by 2050, there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.
Throughout the week we will be celebrating businesses who have pledged to lessen their straw use in 2018 and announcing new establishments that join us in ‘The Last Plastic Straw Blacksburg Restaurant Campaign’ to reduce community and global straw use.
