NRV Regional Housing Study

This study, completed in 2021, incorporates regional and local data as well as input from 10 focus groups and over 1,100 online survey responses and includes seven regional housing strategies and tailored strategies for each locality. The Regional Commission partnered with the Virginia Center for Housing Research at Virginia Tech and Housing Forward Virginia, to provide housing market data collection, analysis training, and strategy development for this report.

Blacksburg Housing Affordability Survey

In August 2021, The Town of Blacksburg completed a 3 part online public engagement process regarding housing affordability to better understand 1) citizen priorities and concerns, 2) which housing types and densities are acceptable to the community 3) what strategies the community would like the Town to pursue, and 4) what specific concerns exist about the strategies proposed.

HUD Consolidated Plan

The Consolidated Plan is designed to help local jurisdictions assess their affordable housing and community development needs and market conditions, and to make data-driven, place-based investment decisions. The consolidated planning process serves as the framework for aligning the funding Blacksburg receives through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.
