Effective July 1st 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed the Virginia Community Policing Act which requires law enforcement entities to collect demographic information related to traffic stops. This data is then forwarded to the Virginia State Police on a quarterly basis for analysis. The Virginia General Assembly amended the Virginia Community Policing Act and effective July 1, 2021, law enforcement entities are required to make traffic and investigatory stop data available to the public. As part of this requirement, the Blacksburg Police Department is providing public access to the Department’s data. Links for each quarter can be found below.
The Virginia State Police has also created a portal for traffic stop data from all Virginia law enforcement entities. Updates to this portal will be made quarterly and can be found at https://data.virginia.gov/stories/s/rden-cz3h.
