Home MenuCitizen Advisory Board
The Blacksburg Police Department Citizen Advisory Board was established in 2020 as an independent body to provide advice and counsel to the police department. Members are Blacksburg residents and Virginia Tech students.
The Board reviews police department policies and procedures, receives weekly reports of officer interactions with the public, and is informed if there are any use of force incidents or complaints. It receives annual audit reports from the state and from independent professional organizations, and strives to be the liaison and bridge of understanding between the Blacksburg and Virginia Tech communities and the police department.
This Board does not serve as a police review or disciplinary board. It has no direct review of particular complaints or personnel actions, but is kept generally informed by the Chief of Police. These matters are the purview of Town administrators, Town Council, and state agencies, such as the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice.
