ROW 23-0001/ORD 2036 -Request to vacate approximately 20,439 square feet of Town-Owned Right-of-Way (adjacent to Tax Parcel 347-8 1) at 2600 Research Center Drive by Gretchen Merix of Balzer & Associates (applicant) on behalf of Snyder-Hunt Company, LLP (owner).

The Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has received a request to vacate approximately 20,439 square feet (0.47 acres) of Town-owned Right-of-Way (ROW 23-0001) known as Rimrock Drive from Research Center Drive to its termination at Route 460 Bypass. The application states that the vacated property will be absorbed into Tax Parcel 347-8 1 and used as a private driveway to access the Blue Ridge Cancer Center. 

Rimrock Drive ROW is a built street and includes sidewalk and utilities. 

 

The following meetings have been scheduled to consider this application:

Neighborhood Meeting
 Wednesday, August 2, 2023, 4:00 pm in the Blacksburg Motor Company building,  400 South Main Street.
This is an informal meeting that will give the applicant the opportunity to present the plans and provide attendees with the opportunity to ask questions.  A staff member from the Planning Department will forward the notes from the meeting to the Planning Commission and Town Council. 
Planning Commission Work Session
 Tuesday, August 15, 2023, 5:00 pm in the Blacksburg Motor Company building, 400 South Main Street.
 The Planning Commission will review the request and the staff report. There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal.  The public is welcome to attend, however, this is not a public hearing, and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.
Planning Commission Public Hearing

 Tuesday, September 5, 2023, 6:30 pm in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers, 2nd Floor Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street.

(Recommended approval with a vote of 7-0)

 The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the request and make a recommendation to Town Council.  There will be an opportunity for the applicant and the public to comment.
Town Council Work Session
Tuesday, September 19, 2023, 11 am in the Blacksburg Motor Company Conference Room, 400 South Main Street.
 The Town Council will review the request, the staff report, and Planning Commission's recommendation.  There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal.  The public is welcome to attend, however this is not a public hearing and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.
Town Council Public Hearing

 Tuesday, October 10, 2023, 6:30 pm in the Roger E. Hedgepeth Chambers, 2nd Floor Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street.

(Approved with a vote of 7-0)

 The Town Council will hold a public hearing on the request and take final action.  There will be an opportunity for the applicant and the public to comment.
