CUP18-0003 - Conditional Use Permit request at 404 Mount Tabor Rd. for a Daycare Use in R-5 by Melissa West of the Mayapple School (applicant) on behalf of Blacksburg Friends Meeting (owner).
The Blacksburg Planning and Building Department has received a request for a Conditional Use Permit for Daycare use in the R-5 Transitional Residential Zoning District at the Blacksburg Friends Meeting at 404 Mount Tabor Rd. The Mayapple School requests to use classroom space and the adjacent yard from Blacksburg Friends Meeting for use as a preschool/daycare. A conditional use permit is required for a daycare use in the R-5 district. The preschool would care for a maximum of 16 children with two teachers/staff. The school will operate Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from August until June. The preschool/daycare has no plans to expand the number of students, staff or building space for the foreseeable future. The Blacksburg Friends Meeting has a Special Use Permit for religious assembly granted in 2005 by Resolution 6-C-05.

This is an informal meeting that will give the applicant the opportunity to present the plans and provide attendees with the opportunity to ask questions. A staff member from the Planning department will forward the notes from the meeting to the Planning Commission and Town Council.

Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 5 p.m. in the Blacksburg Motor Company Building at 400 S. Main St.

The Planning Commission will review the request and the staff report. There will be an opportunity for the applicant to present the proposal. The public is welcome to attend, however, this is not a public hearing, and there will not be an opportunity for public comment.
